(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Cambodian People's Party, and Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee, agreed to expedite the completion of border demarcation between the two countries.

Samdech Techo received a courtesy call by Tran Cam Tu at the Senate's Solidarity Palace on Friday (Apr. 10).

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined the urgency of completing the demarcation process in a comprehensive and timely manner. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared goal of building a border defined by friendship, peace, cooperation, and development.

Tran Cam Tu echoed the call for acceleration, noting that finalising the border is crucial for maintaining stability and strengthening the long-standing ties between Cambodia and Viet Nam.

Meanwhile, Samdech Techo Hun Sen characterised Tran Cam Tu's high-level visit to Cambodia as a clear demonstration of the robust bilateral relationship and a symbol of mutual trust between the two countries.

During the meeting, Tran Cam Tu expressed his appreciation to Samdech Techo for the opportunity for discussion. He noted that cooperation between the two nations remains strong and dynamic, highlighted by frequent high-level exchanges among party and state leaders, reflecting the ongoing strengthening of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations. Cooperation between the two nations continues to expand across key sectors, particularly national defence and border management.

Tran Cam Tu also highlighted joint efforts by border provinces to combat transnational crime, enhance security, and maintain stability to prevent hostile forces from exploiting either country’s territory.

Cross-border trade continues to flourish, having exceeded USD 10 billion, with both countries aiming to increase bilateral trade to USD 20 billion.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed full agreement with Tran Cam Tu's remarks, especially concerning the need to strengthen cooperation along the border. He urged the relevant authorities on both sides to ensure peace, stability, and development across the entire border.

He also welcomed the proposal to expand trade, noting that economic, trade, and investment relations are central pillars of bilateral ties. He expressed optimism that both nations will achieve the USD 20 billion trade target.

In conclusion, Samdech Techo emphasised the necessity for the legislative, executive, and party institutions of both countries to deepen their collaboration and further expand this partnership within the overarching framework of bilateral relations.
