(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Acting Head of State Hun Sen reaffirmed that Cambodia remains committed to maintaining a durable ceasefire and pursuing a peaceful resolution to its border issue with Thailand through existing bilateral mechanisms.

His remarks were made on Thursday (Apr. 2) during a courtesy call from Steven Pang Chee Wee, the newly appointed Ambassador of Singapore to Cambodia, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh.

He also expressed gratitude to Singapore for its support, particularly for deploying observers to monitor the Cambodia–Thailand border situation.

According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the ambassador on his appointment, noting that his swift assumption of duties reflects Singapore’s strong commitment to bilateral relations.

Ambassador Steven Pang Chee Wee highlighted the long-standing ties between Cambodia and Singapore, noting that both countries marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, with frequent high-level exchanges underscoring their strong partnership.

He pledged to further strengthen cooperation in diplomacy, politics, trade, economy, and investment, while promoting greater people-to-people exchanges and tourism.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador’s commitment and emphasized that continued high-level visits reflect the close friendship between the two nations. He cited Prime Minister Hun Manet’s visit to Singapore in 2024 and the Singaporean prime minister’s visit to Cambodia in 2025 as key milestones in bilateral relations.

He also thanked Singapore for its contributions to human resource development in Cambodia.

In conclusion, Samdech Techo wished the Singaporean ambassador success in his mission to further strengthen Cambodia-Singapore relations.
