(Phnom Penh): Steven Pang Chee Wee, the newly appointed Singaporean Ambassador to Cambodia, pledged to promote increased investment from Singaporean businesses and deepen bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including trade, economy, and tourism.

His statement was made during his courtesy call on Cambodian Acting Head of State Hun Sen to present his credentials, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Thursday morning (Apr. 2).

According to the Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo welcomed the ambassador and noted that his swift assumption of duties reflects Singapore’s strong commitment to its relationship with Cambodia.

Ambassador Steven Pang Chee Wee thanked Samdech Techo for the opportunity to meet with him and highlighted the enduring ties between the two nations, noting that both countries marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, with high-level reciprocal visits underscoring the strength of bilateral ties.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening diplomatic, political, and economic cooperation, while also promoting greater people-to-people exchanges to boost tourism and connectivity.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with the ambassador’s commitment and emphasized the importance of continued high-level exchanges, citing Prime Minister Hun Manet’s visit to Singapore in 2024 and the Singaporean prime minister’s visit to Cambodia in 2025 as key milestones.

He also thanked Singapore for its contributions to Cambodia’s human resource development.

Both sides briefly discussed the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, with Hun Sen expressing appreciation for Singapore’s support, including the deployment of observers, and reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the matter peacefully through dialogue.

In conclusion, Samdech Techo wished the Singaporean ambassador success in his mission to further strengthen Cambodia-Singapore relations.
