(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) expressed shared commitment to further promoting cooperation in the tourism sector by connecting and promoting Cambodia’s tourism potential to its 28 member countries covering 90% of the territory and population of Asia.

Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak granted a courtesy call to CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay and his high-level delegation on 31 March 2026 to discuss the establishment and strengthening of tourism cooperation between Cambodia and CICA member countries at the Ministry of Tourism's headquarter.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the general situation and development direction of the tourism sector, as well as discussed practical cooperation opportunities with CICA member countries in promoting regional tourism connectivity. At the same time, the CICA side expressed its gratitude for the warm welcome and expressed its high interest in Cambodia’s tourism potential, especially in the factors of peace, political stability, and economic and social development, which are important bases for attracting foreign tourists and investors.

In response, Minister Huot Hak expressed gratitude and high appreciation for CICA’s role in promoting peace, stability and cooperation in the Asian region and thanked for its support in promoting Cambodia’s tourism potential. At the same time, the two sides had in-depth discussions on several cooperation initiatives, including organizing the CICA Tourism Forum, developing the tourism circuit, organizing expert meetings or workshops, promoting cultural heritage and common tourism destinations, as well as youth tourism programs and educational exchanges to enhance connectivity and understanding between the people of the member countries.

In addition, the Cambodian side also requested CICA to examine the possibility of organizing tourism promotion events, exhibitions and regional forums to promote tourism potential and investment opportunities, including organizing the first CICA Tourism Investment Forum and the FAM Trip program to attract investors and tourists to Cambodia. It also proposed to promote the training of officials and experts in the tourism sector to strengthen professional knowledge, institutional capacity and technical skills, which will contribute to improving the quality of services and management of the tourism sector.

It is worth noting that the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was established in 1999, headquartered in Astana capital, Kazakhstan, and has 28 member countries, covering approximately 90% of Asia’s territory and population. Cambodia also joined on 1 March 2011, and has actively participated in promoting peace, stability, and development in the region.
