(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call from Zou Jiayi, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Wednesday morning (Apr. 1).
During the meeting, the AIIB President Zou Jiayi commended Cambodia’s rapid growth and achievements and spoke highly of the Royal Government’s long-term national development goal. She expressed her appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia, as well as relevant ministries and institutions, for their continued trust in and support for the AIIB.
She also briefed Samdech Thipadei on the bank’s four priority policies: climate change and clean energy; regional and cross-border infrastructure connectivity; technology-enabled infrastructure development; and private sector development.
The AIIB president emphasised that these priorities are aligned with Cambodia’s development vision. She further reaffirmed that Cambodia is one of the AIIB’s key strategic partners and expressed the Bank’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and supporting development projects that contribute to Cambodia’s continued progress.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet extended a warm welcome to Zou Jiayi and congratulated on her appointment as President of the AIIB. He expressed his confidence that, under her leadership, cooperation between Cambodia and the AIIB will be further strengthened and yield tangible results.
He underscored that the AIIB’s priority areas are closely aligned with Cambodia’s national development strategies and priority sectors. Regarding clean energy development, Samdech Thipadei noted that the Royal Government of Cambodia has set a target of increasing the share of renewable energy to 70 per cent by 2030 and has introduced incentive policies to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), contributing to the country’s long-term carbon neutrality goals.
He also highlighted the need to continue refining measures in the logistics and energy sectors to enhance Cambodia’s regional and global competitiveness.
In conclusion, the prime minister encouraged the AIIB to maintain close engagement and consultations with relevant ministries, particularly the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to accelerate the implementation of practical cooperation projects that deliver maximum benefits to the Cambodian people.
