(Phnom Penh): Banks and financial institutions in Cambodia disbursed approximately USD 31.8 billion in loans in 2025, marking a 5.3% increase from USD 31.19 billion in 2024, according to a report from Credit Bureau Cambodia (CBC).
Total outstanding credit exceeded USD 62 billion, up from USD 58 billion the previous year, while the number of borrowers reached about 5.13 million.
Oeur Sothearoath, CBC Chief Executive Officer, said credit demand remained strong despite challenges, including Cambodia–Thailand border tensions. Loan applications rose 8.7% to 6.3 million, with lending activity intensifying in the fourth quarter.
Small-value loans dominated, with around 60% below USD 3,000. Business loans accounted for only 13% of total lending, while women made up 52% of borrowers.
According to the CBC report, Phnom Penh, Kandal Province, and Kampong Speu Province together accounted for 61% of total credit, with Phnom Penh alone contributing about USD 31 billion.
As of 2025, Cambodia has 196 licensed lending institutions, including 91 banks and 71 microfinance institutions.
