(Phnom Penh): On Monday (Mar. 30), the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), Liquid Group, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) launched Phase 2 of cross-border QR payment connectivity between Cambodia and Singapore, with support from ACLEDA Bank and Phillip Bank.
The rollout builds on Phase 1 (November 2025), which enabled Cambodian users to scan Singapore’s SGQR codes via the RoamQR network using the Bakong system.
Phase 2 completes the digital payment corridor, allowing Singaporean tourists to “pay like a local” in Cambodia by scanning KHQR codes at over 4.5 million merchants nationwide. Under the slogan “Scan Local, Pay Global,” users can pay directly through mobile banking or e-wallet apps, with instant transactions, transparent exchange rates, and automatic SGD–KHR conversion.
NBC Governor Chea Serey said the launch marks a major step in advancing digital payments and regional connectivity.
The KHQR–SGQR linkage is expected to boost tourism, trade, and business efficiency by enabling secure, real-time payments while reducing transaction costs. It also supports MSMEs in Cambodia by allowing them to accept international digital payments, advancing financial inclusion and ASEAN’s push toward a unified digital economy.
