(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that traffic laws will be enforced without exception, particularly against drunk driving that endangers lives.

In a statement on Tuesday (Mar. 31), he warned that violations, especially those involving alcohol and resulting in accidents, will face the strictest legal consequences, as consistently enforced in the past.

The reminder follows a deadly March 27 hit-and-run in Moung Ruessei district, Battambang province, which claimed six lives, including an unborn child.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet ordered Justice Minister Keut Rith and National Police Chief Sar Thet to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the actual driver and ensure justice for the victims.

He also urged citizens to drive cautiously and strictly follow traffic laws, especially during the upcoming Khmer New Year holiday. Authorities nationwide have been instructed to strengthen road safety measures as travel increases.
