(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet ordered a full investigation into a fatal hit-and-run accident in Moung Ruessei district, Battambang province, that killed six people, including an unborn child.

In a statement posted Tuesday (Mar. 31), the premier instructed Justice Minister Keut Rith and National Police Chief Sar Thet to identify the actual driver responsible and ensure strict enforcement of the law.

The March 27 crash has sparked public concern that the perpetrator might evade justice due to alleged connections with officials.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and reiterated that violations of traffic laws, particularly in cases involving reckless driving or alcohol-related offenses, will be subject to the strictest legal consequences without exception.

He also urged citizens to exercise greater caution on the roads and comply with traffic laws, especially during the upcoming Khmer New Year travel period. Authorities nationwide have been directed to strengthen road safety measures during the holiday.
