(Phnom Penh): Cambodian National Assembly approved a draft law on combating online scams during the 5th session of the 7th legislature, held at the National Assembly Palace on Monday (Mar. 30) under the presidency of Khuon Sudary.

The draft law received unanimous support, with all 112 lawmakers voting in favour.

The draft law aims to strengthen measures against online scams by establishing clear criminal penalties, enhancing public safety, and maintaining social order. Offenders will face strict punishment, including life imprisonment in serious cases involving additional crimes such as extortion or murder.

Cambodian Interior Minister Sar Sokha said in February that Cambodia had deported more than 30,000 suspected foreign scammers, as over 210,000 others had voluntarily left the kingdom after operations against online scams had intensified since June 2025.
