(Phnom Penh): Hak Sok Heng, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC), led a meeting with Christine Ha, Head of the Digital Working Group of Agency French for Development (AFD), to review and evaluate the project to build a National AI and Data Science Research Centre in Cambodia, with the participation of Seng Sopheap, Director of Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT), AFD representative in Cambodia, and officials from MPCT and CADT on 23-26 March 2026.
During the three-day meeting, MPTC, CADT and AFD representatives discussed the project's detailed action plan and the results of the project's feasibility study, as well as gathered input and recommendations of the two main components of the project.
The project aim to establish a National Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Center in Cambodia is one of the top priorities, under the guidance of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, in building a national artificial intelligence ecosystem, especially in preparing fundamental infrastructure to promote the adoption and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to contribute to the development of Cambodia’s digital economy and society in line with the rapid evolution of digital technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The project will establish a research centre that provides a shared and sovereign infrastructure that enables all ministries, institutions, educational and research institutions, the private sector, and new digital businesses to share the use of the High-Performance Computing Cluster and have AI experts provide technical support.
At the same time, both sides will continue to cooperate in the preparation and implementation of the project to establish the Centre as expected in the project plan.
