(Svay Rieng): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted Svay Rieng Province as a rising economic hub, driven by strong industrial growth, cross-border trade, and increasing foreign investment.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Mar. 26) during an inauguration of the Andong Tasey Water Treatment Plant in Svay Rieng province.

“Sustained inflows of foreign investment and rapid industrial expansion have significantly boosted economic growth. The newly inaugurated water treatment plant, designed to serve residents, businesses, and investors, represents a key milestone in supporting this development despite existing challenges,” Samdech Thipad stated.

He emphasised that Svay Rieng’s economic momentum is underpinned by its expanding industrial base and strategic location along the border. While growth presents challenges, he said the development of essential infrastructure, particularly clean water, plays a critical role in supporting both residents and investors.

The prime minister also pointed to the province’s untapped potential, noting the availability of land for further industrial development beyond Bavet City. He expressed confidence that Svay Rieng could become one of Cambodia’s major industrial centres within the next two decades, with positive spillover effects on neighbouring Prey Veng Province.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also underlined that the ongoing developments in Svay Rieng reflect a concerted effort to enhance the province's economic landscape and promote sustainable growth, ultimately contributing to Cambodia's overall prosperity.

Currently, Svay Rieng ranks first nationwide in the number of special economic zones, hosting 12 zones and more than 1,000 factories and enterprises. Most districts in the province already accommodate industrial activity, with further expansion expected.
