(Svay Rieng): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the significant transformation of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces, noting their shift from low agricultural productivity to emerging industrial hubs with improving living standards.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Mar. 26) during an inauguration of the Andong Tasey Water Treatment Plant in Svay Rieng province. The plant, valued at approximately USD 30.6 million, forms part of a broader infrastructure expansion across five provinces. The initiative is funded by a grant from the Government of Japan and implemented through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In his address, the prime minister noted that Svay Rieng still possesses substantial untapped land, offering strong prospects for continued industrial expansion alongside agriculture. “I expect industrial factories to expand beyond their current concentration in Bavet City,” he said.
Driven by industrial growth, cross-border trade, and increasing foreign investment, Svay Rieng is steadily emerging as a key economic corridor in Cambodia. The newly inaugurated water treatment facility is expected to address critical constraints for residents, businesses, and investors.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also underscored the promising future of industrial development in Svay Rieng, noting its positive impact on neighbouring Prey Veng province. Looking ahead, he underscored the imperative to boost infrastructure, governance, security, and environmental sustainability, while prioritising the development of skilled human capital to sustain long-term growth and improve livelihoods at the grassroots level.
