(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, received the credentials of the newly appointed Lao Ambassador to Cambodia, Sonexay Vannaxay, at the Senate's Solidarity Palace on Tuesday (Mar. 24).

During the reception, Samdech Techo emphasised the enduring friendship and mutual respect between Cambodia and Laos. According to Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo expressed his satisfaction with the ambassador's remarks on the strong bilateral relations between the two nations.

He highlighted the historical ties between Cambodia and Laos, which have evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership characterised by consistent cooperation and support. Samdech Techo reaffirmed that both countries are committed to maintaining their friendship and collaboration across various domains.

On behalf of King Norodom Sihamoni, the acting head of state extended a warm welcome and congratulatory remarks to the newly appointed ambassador. He noted that the ambassador's timely arrival to commence his diplomatic duties signifies Laos' firm commitment to its relationship with Cambodia.

In addition, Samdech Techo encouraged greater cooperation in trade, economic development, and investment, recognising the significant role these areas play in strengthening political and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The Lao ambassador expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Samdech Techo for the opportunity to present his credentials. He reaffirmed the strength of Cambodia–Laos relations, underscoring the historical context of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

In conclusion, the ambassador highlighted that 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos and committed to further fortifying and expanding the relationship between the two countries during his diplomatic tenure.

He also expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Royal Government and people of Cambodia to Laos, particularly during the COVID19 pandemic, when Cambodia provided essential vaccines and technical assistance.
