(Sihanoukville): Japan will support the construction of a maritime radar system at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to enhance vessel monitoring and management, contributing to Cambodia’s port modernisation and economic development.

Lou Kim Chhun, Chairman and CEO of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, stated on Monday (Mar. 23) that the project is scheduled to commence in early May and is expected to be completed by September.

“The Japanese Government will assist in installing a radar antenna to monitor and manage all vessels navigating toward the port. The project is expected to be completed by September,” he said.

He underscored the strategic importance of ports as key gateways to Cambodia’s economy, noting that modernising port infrastructure is vital for sustaining economic growth and ensuring efficient maritime operations.

Lou Kim Chhun also expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their continued support over the past three decades, including assistance in infrastructure development, port management systems, and human resource capacity-building.
