(Phnom Penh): On 18 March 2026, Cambodia and Brazil held the Second Cambodia-Brazil Bilateral Consultations in Phnom Penh, according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Friday (Mar. 20).
It was co-chaired by Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Susan Kleebank, Secretary of Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the significance of this consultation mechanism and recalled the good outcomes of the first consultation held in BrasÃlia in December 2022.
The co-chairs reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and consolidating existing areas of cooperation while exploring untapped potentials.
The two sides also shared the latest updates on political and economic developments in Cambodia and Brazil, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of mutual interest, including trade and investment, tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, agro-processing, innovation, education, demining, and parliamentary-to-parliamentary relations.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining regular high-level exchange visits. They also agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to further deliberate on matters related to trade, investment, tourism, and broader economic cooperation.
In addition, both parties expressed their shared interest in expediting the implementation of the existing agreement in the education sector, particularly by encouraging collaboration between universities in the two countries.
On the multilateral front, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation and mutual support within the United Nations framework and international organizations.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments of shared concern, including Cambodia-Thailand border situation. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting regional and global peace, stability, and sustainable development, as well as upholding international law and a rules-based international order.
