(Tokyo): Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth visited the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to explore advancements in space technology, particularly satellite development and its growing role in telecommunications and digital systems.
The visit took place on the sidelines of the Second In-person Meeting of the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group on 15-16 March 2026, in Tokyo, Japan.
During the trip, the minister also met with representatives from three Japanese companies: Nippon Koei, Magna Wireless, and NextMake, to expand cooperation in Cambodia’s digital sector.
Nippon Koei, which is developing the master plan for Cambodia’s Digital Park, was recognised for its long-standing partnership with the country, dating back to 1958 when it received a royal decoration for contributions to the development of the country's waterways and railways.
Discussions with Magna Wireless focused on potential investment in Cambodia, particularly the possibility of establishing operations within the Digital Park. The company specialises in telecommunications equipment, including low-latency 5G devices, semiconductors, and chips.
Meanwhile, talks with NextMake centred on sending Cambodian digital-skilled students with Japanese language proficiency to work in Japan under the IT Pathway Program supported by the ministry.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts to deepen Cambodia–Japan cooperation in key areas such as space technology, digital investment, telecommunications, digital workforce development, and infrastructure.
