(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed Kim Changyong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, during a courtesy meeting at the Peace Palace on Tuesday morning (Mar. 17).

Ambassador Kim reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and South Korea. He expressed honour at his appointment and praised Cambodia’s rich history, culture, and civilisation.

He highlighted the strong and steadily growing ties between the two countries since the restoration of diplomatic relations in 1997, noting continued progress through high-level exchanges and cooperation across multiple sectors. He also acknowledged the role of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current Senate President, in advancing these relations.

Looking ahead, the ambassador noted that 2027 will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties. The South Korean Embassy plans to organise commemorative events and further deepen cooperation during this milestone period. He pledged to work actively to enhance bilateral engagement during his tenure.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the ambassador and congratulated him on his appointment. He expressed appreciation for the steady progress in bilateral relations, particularly following the elevation of ties to a “Strategic Partnership” in 2024, which has opened new avenues for cooperation.

Both sides discussed expanding collaboration in key areas, including economy, trade, investment, education, and defence. They also praised the effective cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies in combating online scams and cybercrime.
