(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, during a courtesy meeting at the Peace Palace on Tuesday morning (Mar. 17).

The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cambodia's social and economic development.

Jaramillo expressed appreciation for the meeting and commended Cambodia’s development progress. He voiced strong support for the country’s strategy to achieve high-income status by 2050.

He also briefed the prime minister on ongoing World Bank-supported projects, particularly those focused on job creation. Key sectors identified for growth include agriculture and agribusiness, tourism, manufacturing, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The World Bank emphasized continued collaboration with the private sector, recognizing it as a key driver of employment and economic expansion. Jaramillo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia to promote sustainable development.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the vice president and expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued partnership. He highlighted the importance of its support in implementing national policies and the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1, aimed at achieving Cambodia’s 2050 high-income goal.

The prime minister also outlined key government priorities to strengthen national resilience, including human capital development, vocational training, education, healthcare, financial sector reform, investment promotion, SME development, and increased domestic production capacity.
He further underscored ongoing efforts to improve Cambodia’s investment climate, making it more competitive and attractive to investors.

Both sides discussed key priorities for economic growth, including advancing education and workforce skills, expanding vocational training, strengthening institutional capacity, and enhancing cooperation with the private sector to unlock new opportunities.
