(Phnom Penh): Chea Vandeth, Minister of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC), delivered a keynote address at the opening of the 12th Asia-Pacific Spectrum Management Conference on Wednesday (Mar. 11).
The event was led by the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) and Forum Global. It was attended by Masanori Kondo, Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), and Atsuko Okuda, Regional Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
Around 250 participants joined the event at the Shangri-La Hotel in Phnom Penh, including leaders from Forum Global, senior officials from the MPTC and TRC, policymakers, industry experts from Asia-Pacific countries, and representatives from the national and international private sectors.
In his remarks, Minister Chea Vandeth emphasised that radio frequency spectrum is a rare and valuable national resource and a key foundation for expanding mobile network coverage and advancing Cambodia’s digital transformation.
He underlined that establishing clear policies for the management and allocation of radio frequency spectrum is essential to support the development of wireless technologies, ensure efficient spectrum use, and maintain fair competition in the telecommunications sector.
On the occasion, the minister also highlighted that Cambodia launched 5G mobile services on 1 January 2026, initially covering 767 locations, with the number expanding to 1,592 locations as of Mar. 5, 2026.
