(Phnom Penh): Cambodia will soon connect Southeast Asia’s largest solar power facility to the national electricity grid, officials confirmed, marking a significant milestone in the country’s renewable energy development.
The Chheu Tom Solar Power Complex, located in Krakor district of Pursat province, has a total generating capacity of 930 megawatts (MW), making it the largest solar energy project in Southeast Asia.
The solar facility is situated in Kandal and Krang Khvuen villages in Chheu Tom commune and is scheduled to begin supplying electricity to Cambodia’s national grid later this month.
Once operational, the project will surpass Viet Nam’s Dau Tieng Solar Power Complex, which has a capacity of approximately 500 MW, previously among the region’s largest solar power installations.
Officials said the project will strengthen Cambodia’s electricity supply while supporting the government’s long-term strategy to expand renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
