(Banteay Meanchey): Cambodia has expanded its digital skills education program to 18 additional primary schools as part of efforts to strengthen digital literacy among young students.
The official launch ceremony was held on Friday morning (Mar. 6) at Rohat Teuk Primary School in Banteay Meanchey. The event was presided over by So Visothy, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC), and Hay Hunleng, member of the National Committee for Promoting the Implementation of Key Measures in Education (NCPIE).
The program supports the Royal Government’s key education initiatives by developing Cambodia’s digital human resources from an early age, equipping students with fundamental digital knowledge and skills, and enabling them to harness technology to strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the digital economy.
MPTC has collaborated with NCPIE, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and Tech for Kids Academy to implement the program.
Digital skills courses are provided for Grades 4, 5, and 6, alongside digital learning classes. Schools have renovated classrooms and equipped them with computers, smart TVs, security cameras, and internet systems, while teachers have been selected and trained to deliver digital instruction.
The curriculum focuses on building students’ digital competencies in areas such as English for technology, basic computer literacy, digital citizenship, online safety, mathematics and science, coding, artificial intelligence (AI), and problem-solving.
In Phase 2 of the 2025–2026 school year, the addition of 18 new schools has expanded the program to 60 target primary schools across 19 provinces and municipalities, benefiting 17,988 students, including 8,796 girls. The expansion marks an important step in implementing the government’s digital strategy to develop human resources and maximise the benefits of technological advancement.
In the 2024–2025 school year, students from 22 participating schools took part in UNICEF’s Virtual Global Game Jam 2025 and other innovation competitions, earning national-level awards in youth entrepreneurship at the primary level.
During the ceremony, Secretary of State So Visothy urged digital teachers to work closely with school directors to maintain classroom equipment for long-term use and maximise the benefits of digital learning. He also encouraged parents and guardians to support regular school attendance. He further advised students to study digital skills diligently so they can become competent digital professionals in the future.
