(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed a temporary suspension on sending Cambodian students and trainees to the Middle East amid rising tensions, speaking on Friday (Mar. 6) during the closing ceremony of the National Authority for Combating Drugs’ annual conference at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
Samdech Thipadei has been closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and decided to temporarily halt the dispatch of students and trainees to Israel and other affected areas until the situation stabilizes.
According to the prime minister, there are currently about 487 Cambodian citizens and students in the Middle East, including more than 280 in Israel.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also instructed Cambodian diplomats and relevant authorities to closely monitor the situation and prioritize the safety of Cambodians living in conflict-affected areas.
Samdech Thipadei added that if necessary, evacuation measures must be carried out promptly while authorities continue to monitor developments closely.
