(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that organizing New Year Sangkranta festival should strengthen national unity rather than create division among Cambodians, urging a “win-win” spirit instead of rivalry.

The premier spoke on Friday (Mar. 6) during the closing ceremony of the National Authority for Combating Drugs’ annual conference at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

Samdech Thipadei underscored that celebrations such as Sangkranta should bring people together, not spark arguments over who organizes or gains credit for them. As Cambodians sharing the same traditions and nation, he said the focus should be on celebrating the Khmer New Year collectively.

“If organizing Sangkranta or celebrating our national traditional festival causes division among Cambodians, it should not happen,” the prime minister said, warning that national division weakens the country, especially during challenging times.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also voiced support for the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) and encouraged provinces and the capital to organize activities that allow people across the country to participate in Khmer New Year celebrations together.

He added that such events should also reflect the “win-win” spirit by remembering and supporting veterans, national police stationed along the borders, and displaced people.
