(Phnom Penh): Katharina Wieser, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Cambodia, revealed that approximately 10 Austrian companies are expected to visit Cambodia in the near future to explore potential investment opportunities.

Ambassador Wieser made the remarks during a courtesy call on Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen to present her credentials on 4 March 2026.

According to Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith, the ambassador also highlighted the expansion of cooperation in political frameworks, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, and investment. She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening economic ties between Cambodia and Austria and noted that about 10 Austrian companies are planning a visit to Cambodia to assess investment prospects.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed Ambassador Wieser on her appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Cambodia. He said her swift assumption of duty reflects Austria’s strong commitment to its relations with Cambodia and expressed hope that her tenure would further enhance bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Wieser expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present her credentials and reaffirmed her commitment to deepening relations between Cambodia and Austria. She noted that the two countries have enjoyed diplomatic relations for 70 years since 1956, built on positive cooperation and mutual trust.

For his part, Samdech Techo welcomed the ambassador’s remarks and agreed on the importance of expanding trade, particularly investment. He also expressed support for the upcoming visit of Austrian companies seeking opportunities in Cambodia.

Samdech Techo also shared views on current global challenges and briefed the ambassador on the past border situation between Cambodia and Thailand. He noted that both countries are working to effectively implement the ceasefire, maintain border stability, and address outstanding issues through legal frameworks and negotiations.
