(Siem Reap): Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), and Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Foreign Minister, visited hundreds of displaced families on Tuesday (Mar. 3) as ongoing border tensions with Thailand continue to delay villagers’ return to their homes in the country’s northwest.

The visit took place at a temporary shelter in Siem Reap province.

The delegation met 414 families, representing approximately 1,395 people, currently staying at the Wat Thammarangsey safe centre, commonly known as Wat Sampov Loun, in Kralanh district.

The families fled their homes in the O’Smach area of Oddar Meanchey Province. Local authorities said the evacuation followed reported territorial incursions by Thai military forces, occurring after a formal ceasefire between the two countries had taken effect.

During the visit, the delegation distributed food and essential supplies to the affected families, who remain unable to return home due to continued instability along the border.

Mushikiwabo is on a four-day working visit to Cambodia to review preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit, scheduled for 15-16 November 2026, in Phnom Penh.
