(Phnom Penh): Outgoing Singaporean Ambassador to Cambodia Teo Lay Cheng expressed strong confidence that relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Singapore will continue to deepen in the years ahead.
The outgoing ambassador paid a farewell call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Monday morning (Mar. 2) at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.
Taking this occasion, Ambassador Teo Lay Cheng thanked Samdech Thipadei for allowing her and her delegations to pay the farewell call. She also conveyed her appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia, as well as relevant ministries and institutions, for their cooperation and support in strengthening bilateral ties throughout her tenure.
She expressed satisfaction with the excellent collaboration between the two countries and highlighted her pride in serving in Cambodia. The ambassador noted the Kingdom’s significant achievements during her tenure, including its effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summits and related meetings, as well as the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. She reiterated her firm belief that Cambodia–Singapore relations will continue to grow stronger.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet commended Ambassador Teo Lay Cheng for her valuable contributions to enhancing cooperation between the two nations and congratulated her on her new appointment.
Premier Hun Manet also expressed appreciation for Singapore’s past support in encouraging a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. He emphasized that both countries still possess considerable potential to expand cooperation in key sectors such as the economy, trade and investment, education, and vocational training.
Regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, Samdech Thipadei briefed the ambassador on recent developments and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving border matters peacefully, in accordance with international law, conventions, treaties, and existing bilateral agreements. Ambassador Teo Lay Cheng expressed hope that the dispute would be settled through peaceful means.
