(Phnom Penh): Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary Border General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), announced plans to visit Cambodian families displaced by the conflict along the Cambodia–Thailand border, underscoring her concern for those still unable to return home.

Mushikiwabo is currently on an official visit to Cambodia to discuss preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit, scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh in November 2026. On Monday morning (Mar. 2), she paid a courtesy call on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State, at the Solidarity Palace, Senate.

According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, the secretary general informed Samdech Techo that she has been closely monitoring developments related to the border situation. She shared that during her visit, she intends to personally meet with displaced persons who have yet to return to their homes.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed appreciation for her attention to the matter, particularly her decision to visit the affected families. He considered the planned trip as a clear expression of support for peace, emphasizing the shared desire to prevent any resurgence of armed conflict.

Armed clashes along the Cambodia–Thailand border previously forced more than 600,000 Cambodian civilians to flee their homes. Although hostilities officially ceased on 27 December 2025, nearly 50,000 people remain displaced. Some families are reportedly unable to return due to ongoing obstructions in certain areas, including containers and barbed wire that restrict access to their properties.
