(Kampong Chhnang): Pich Chanmony, spouse of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, stated that only knowledge, intelligence, discipline, and morality are the most essential foundations for empowering Cambodia’s next generation to become capable human resources who can contribute to national development and prosperity.

Her remarks were made on 25 February 2026 during a visit to review the National Homegrown School Feeding Programme at Prasat Cheang Tong Primary School in Rolea B’ier district, Kampong Chhnang province. The programme sources food from community agricultural products.

The visit was attended by Royal Palace Minister Kuy Sophal and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron.

Addressing students, Pich Chanmony encouraged them to study diligently, strengthen their abilities, maintain discipline, and uphold good morals for their personal futures, their families, and the nation.

“Knowledge, intelligence, discipline, and morality are essential tools for the next generation to become valuable human resources and a strong social force for the country’s future,” she stated.

She underscored that children must receive proper care, quality education, and adequate nutrition, particularly safe and nutritious food, to grow into future pillars of the nation.

The National Homegrown School Feeding Programme, led by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, supports regular school attendance and ensures children receive balanced nutrition. Proper nutrition enhances concentration, forming a solid foundation for effective learning. The initiative also promotes a healthy school food environment by providing nutritious meals while reducing foods high in sugar, salt, and fat.

Pich Chanmony expressed gratitude to local authorities, partner organisations, and community members who cultivate vegetables for schools using locally sourced products. She noted that the initiative not only improves student nutrition but also supports farmers’ livelihoods, strengthens local economies, and promotes self-reliant communities. She voiced her strong support for the continued expansion of the programme nationwide.

At the conclusion of the visit, Hang Chuon Naron also highlighted the programme’s role in narrowing educational gaps between urban and rural students, improving health and nutrition, enhancing social development, reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases, and stimulating local economic growth.

The National Homegrown School Feeding Programme is currently implemented in more than 1,000 schools across Cambodia, benefiting over 300,000 students.
