(Banteay Meanchey): Matsuda Junsaku, Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy to Cambodia, visited Banteay Meanchey province on the afternoon of 23 February 2026 to assess the situation of displaced residents and examine areas affected by Thai incursions into Cambodia’s sovereign territory.
Speaking to journalists after the field visit, the counsellor said the inspection was valuable for the international community, including Japan.
“The field visit was quite useful for every country, including Japan. I discovered that people are still suffering. I also discovered that the government of Cambodia is making a lot of efforts for the displaced people, including the arrangement of food and sanitary system,” he said, noting that Japan has already been providing assistance to the Cambodian people.
He underscored the important role of the ASEAN Observer Team in supporting border stability and expressed confidence in its contribution to a peaceful resolution.
