(Banteay Meanchey): On 23 February 2026, ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and representatives of international organizations accredited to Cambodia conducted an on-site inspection of areas in Banteay Meanchey province where Thai military has occupied Cambodian territory.

The visit, led by Eat Sophea, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, covered Boeung Trakuon in Thma Puok district, as well as Chouk Chey and Prey Chan villages in Ou Beichoan commune, Ou Chrov district. Observers examined sites where Thai troops laid barbed wire, installed shipping containers, dug trenches, and blocked access to homes and farmland belonging to Cambodian civilians.

Chouk Chey Village
Located between Border Markers No. 46 and No. 47, Chouk Chey Village was reportedly first affected on 12–13 August 2025, when Thai troops allegedly laid barbed wire and barriers that blocked villagers’ access to their homes and properties. A second reported incursion occurred on 7 December 2025, followed by further attacks on 8 December.

Prey Chan Village
Situated between Border Markers No. 42 and No. 43, Prey Chan Village reportedly faced similar actions beginning on 13 August 2025. On 12 November 2025, Thai troops allegedly opened fire on civilians, resulting in one death and three injuries. Further reported attacks took place on 8 December 2025.

Boeung Trakuon Area
Located between Border Markers No. 33 and No. 36 and opposite Thailand’s Ban Ta Phraya checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province, the Boeung Trakuon area was also reportedly subjected to renewed attacks from 7 to 27 December 2025. Thai forces are accused of installing shipping containers to block roads, digging trenches, and damaging public infrastructure, including the customs office at the Boeung Trakuon border checkpoint.

Cambodian authorities state that these actions contravene the 27 December 2025 ceasefire agreement, which commits both sides to allow civilians in affected border areas to return home safely and resume normal livelihoods without obstruction.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has lodged repeated formal protests through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, firmly rejecting any attempt to alter the border line or occupy territory by force, in violations of international law.
