(Banteay Meanchey): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia, reported that at 10 a.m. on Friday (Feb. 13), the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to welcome General Romeo S Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, during his visit to several locations in Serey Sophon, Banteay Meanchey province, following the implementation of the ceasefire.
During the visit, Colonel Mohd Farid Bin Mohd Yusop, Head of the AOT in Cambodia, briefed the Philippine military chief and his delegation on the progress of their work.
It is noteworthy that General Brawner is on a four-day official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 11 to 14 February 2026. The visit aims to evaluate and review the preparations for the Philippines’ upcoming leadership of the ASEAN Observer Team in 2026, as it prepares to assume the role from Malaysia.
Cambodia reaffirmed its full support for the ASEAN Observer Team mechanism, underscoring the indispensable importance of strengthening the role and mandate of the AOT to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, while promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.
