(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to expand support through all possible means to nurture outstanding students, from preschool through upper secondary education, with particular attention to those facing financial and learning challenges.

Speaking during a meeting with Grade A high school students on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at OCIC in Chroy Changvar, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the need for structured academic guidance to help gifted students progress into leading higher education institutions worldwide, positioning them as key human resources for Cambodia’s national development, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

At the same time, the premier instructed relevant institutions to systematically document and share effective study strategies used by outstanding students, allowing best practices to be disseminated more broadly across the education system. Additional interventions were encouraged to further strengthen students’ capacities and enhance their competitiveness in regional and international academic competitions.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also reaffirmed the importance of sustaining scholarships for gifted and disadvantaged students, with special emphasis on female students and those from poor families. He further called for continuous improvement in curricula for mathematics, science, technology, engineering, and foreign languages to keep pace with rapid technological change under the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
