(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV), agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations and intensify trade and economic cooperation, with the shared goal of raising bilateral trade volume to USD 20 billion within the next two to three years.

The agreement followed a high-level meeting between the CPP Standing Committee and the CPV Central Committee, held under the joint presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and General Secretary To Lam at 7 Makara Palace on Friday (Feb. 6).

Briefing the press, Spokesperson Chea Thyrith said both sides demonstrated strong solidarity and reaffirmed the enduring unity between the two ruling parties, which continues to underpin relations between the two governments.

Samdech Techo expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations at the party, government, and legislative levels. He highlighted close cooperation across political, legislative, judicial, and sectoral institutions, as well as effective coordination under all circumstances. He also shared assessments on regional and global developments.

General Secretary To Lam thanked the Cambodian side for the warm hospitality extended during his return visit and expressed appreciation for the high-level party-to-party meeting. He fully concurred with Samdech Techo’s assessment of the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Viet Nam’s firm commitment to strengthening ties across party, government, and legislative frameworks.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and stable situation along the shared border, noting that effective cooperation has played a key role in maintaining security. They agreed to further strengthen border cooperation to prevent crime, sustain stability, and support trade and economic growth for the benefit of both peoples, in line with the spirit of good neighborliness.

Chea Thyrith said the two leaders also agreed to expand cooperation in human resource development, particularly in sharing experience and training for the younger generation, including party youth, to foster deeper mutual understanding among future leaders.

In addition, both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing public awareness of the significance of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations at the party, government, and legislative levels.

In conclusion, the spokesperson said both leaders expressed confidence that the USD 20 billion trade target is achievable within the next two to three years, given the strong political foundation and significant potential for expanded cooperation between the two countries.
