(Phnom Penh): Leaders of the ruling parties of Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos have jointly agreed to further strengthen and expand trilateral cooperation, with a strong emphasis on nurturing cooperation for the next generation of successors, following the 2026 high-level Trilateral Party Summit held on 6 February 2026.

According to Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), the leaders called for deeper cooperation across diplomatic, political, economic, trade, and defense sectors, while reinforcing long-standing ties among the three neighboring countries.

The summit was convened at 7 Makara Palace in Phnom Penh and co-chaired by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the CPP; To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam; and Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

Chea Thyrith said the three parties emphasized the importance of continuing regular leadership meetings as a traditional practice to be passed on to future generations. To that end, they agreed to maintain the trilateral summit on a permanent basis as a platform for exploring new areas of cooperation within the framework of close friendship among neighboring countries.

The leaders also agreed to strengthen and expand high-level exchanges, including visits involving successors and youth from all three countries. Youth training was identified as a key priority, with calls for more active and dynamic programs to develop party youth and equip them to play a greater role in sustaining trilateral friendship and cooperation.

In conclusion, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing trilateral relations, particularly in border areas, with a focus on improving safety, security, and peace. They commended the progress achieved in maintaining good border relations and pledged continued cooperation in combating cross-border crime, aiming to ensure long-term stability and lasting peace among the three nations.
