(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party, and To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Cambodia–Viet Nam Friendship School, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, Vietnamese ambassador to Cambodia, representatives of the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration, as well as teachers and a large number of students.

The Cambodia-Viet Nam Friendship School is located along Street 217 in Sangkat Dangkor, Dangkor District, Phnom Penh. The site lies within the compound of Samdech Techo Hun Sen Dangkor Primary and Lower Secondary School, which was established in 1973.

Governor Khuong Sreng noted that the site previously served as a logistics base for the Vietnamese Volunteer Army following Liberation Day on 7 January 1979, before being repurposed as an educational institution.

Given the site’s historical significance and to further strengthen Cambodia–Viet Nam relations under the spirit of connecting youth, generations, and leadership, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport officially renamed the school as the Cambodia–Viet Nam Friendship School. The change was formalized under Announcement No. 95 MoEYS dated 2 February 2026, in line with the guidance of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Currently, the school comprises 11 buildings with 54 classrooms, employs 135 educational staff, and serves approximately 6,000 students from kindergarten to lower secondary levels.

With support from the Party, Government, and people of Viet Nam, the school will undergo major infrastructure expansion and modernization. Planned construction includes two two-storey administrative buildings, 11 three-storey academic buildings totaling 147 classrooms, two canteens, and supporting facilities aimed at improving learning standards and increasing student capacity.

The construction is scheduled to be completed within 12 months, marking a significant step forward in educational cooperation and long-term friendship between Cambodia and Viet Nam.
