(Phnom Penh): On 5 February 2026, Cambodian Tourism Minister Hout Hak received Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Kingdom of Cambodia, along with her colleagues, for a courtesy call and working discussion on tourism cooperation between Cambodia and Cuba.
During the meeting, the minister informed the Cuban ambassador that Cambodia and Cuba have maintained diplomatic relations since 1960, and as of 2026, the two countries have enjoyed 66 years of diplomatic ties.
On this occasion, Minister Huot Hak also briefed the ambassador that through the implementation of the Win-Win Policy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current Acting Head of State of Cambodia, Cambodia has achieved peace, political stability, security, good public order, macroeconomic stability, and strong growth in the tourism sector, which has been recognized as “Green Gold.”
Furthermore, the minister emphasized that under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, the tourism sector has been designated as a top priority and a key pillar of the national economy, playing an important role in socio-economic development.
At the same time, Ambassador Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra expressed her gratitude to Minister Huot Hak for granting her and her colleagues the opportunity to engage in the working discussion.
In addition, she conveyed her interest in further developing bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Cuba through the following initiatives: 1. proposing discussions and the organization of reciprocal Familiarization Trips (FAM Trips) between the two countries to promote and publicize tourism destinations; 2. proposing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministries of Tourism of both countries during an upcoming international tourism exhibition in Cuba; and 3. requesting the Ministry’s assistance in facilitating meetings with tourism associations in Cambodia during the forthcoming visit of a delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism to Cambodia.
The Cambodian tourism minister agreed with the proposals and expressed his support for the organization of reciprocal FAM Trips, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministries of Tourism of the two countries.
