(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on officials and law enforcement forces under the Ministry of Interior to unite in a determined effort to “clean our own home” by eradicating all wrongdoing from the country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Interior’s annual conference, the prime minister warned that a strict “surgical approach” would be enforced without exception against any officials involved in social crimes, particularly online scam operations.

Samdech Thipadei also underlined the need to intensify uncompromising crackdowns on crimes that pose serious challenges to society, including online scams, traffic offenses, drug-related crimes, juvenile delinquency, and human trafficking. He underscored that unity across all institutions is essential to restoring what is good for the nation and its people.

He also urged citizens from all walks of life to actively participate in and support the nationwide effort, reiterating that strict disciplinary measures would be applied to any officials found complicit in social crimes, especially online scams.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei provided priority guidance to the conference, calling for continued protection and assistance for displaced and affected citizens; uninterrupted provision of civil registration and identification services; strengthened human resource development and institutional modernization in line with the digital era; improved quality of public services; and sustained implementation of the Safe Village–Commune–Sangkat policy to ensure the effective execution of the Ministry of Interior’s 2026 work directions.

At the annual conference, Minister of Interior Sar Sokha reported that in 2025, overall criminal offenses declined by 17 percent compared to 2024, with a crackdown success rate of 96 percent. Significant progress was recorded in combating illegal drug crimes, human and labor trafficking, prostitution, online scams, illegal gambling, and juvenile gangs.

The Ministry of Interior is continuing investigations and crackdowns on online scam networks, arresting ringleaders and repatriating foreign offenders to their home countries through close and responsible cooperation with relevant law enforcement authorities.
