(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has categorically rejected reports by several Thai media outlets claiming that Cambodia fired 40mm grenades near the Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base.
According to Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, Thai media on 5 February 2026 published reports stating: “Urgent! The Army Area 2 has discovered that the other side fired 40mm grenades that landed near the Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base.” The spokeswoman affirmed that the reports are entirely fabricated and false, completely contrary to the facts, and intended to mislead public opinion and create tension along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
According to information received from Military Region 4 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the coordination teams of Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Army Area 2 have already contacted and exchanged information to verify the facts. Both sides confirmed that no such incident occurred as reported by the Thai media.
The Ministry of National Defence reiterated firm and clear commitment to fully, strictly, and responsibly respect and implement the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated 26 October 2025, and other related agreements, especially efforts to counter fake news, in order to swiftly improve the situation and restore normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term security along the border.
At the same time, the ministry called on the public and all media outlets to refrain from sharing false information circulated by the aforementioned Thai media, and to follow and rely only on information from clear, accurate, and credible sources, particularly official information released by the Royal Government, official pages of leaders, ministries, and relevant institutions.
