(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen and Pakistani Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani agreed to step up efforts to promote bilateral trade, which currently stands at just USD 53 million.
Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith said in a press conference on the outcomes of the bilateral meeting between the two leaders on Monday afternoon (Feb. 2) at the Solidarity Palace, Senate.
Chea Thyrith said the agreement followed a bilateral meeting between the two leaders and came amid strong and growing political relations between Cambodia and Pakistan.
“Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani agreed to take concrete steps to further strengthen trade relations,” the spokesperson said. “With political ties flourishing, both sides see this as the right moment to expand economic cooperation, as trade volume in 2025 remains relatively low at around $53 million. The two Senate Presidents expressed their desire to see this number grow.”
He added that Pakistan’s population of more than 200 million presents significant opportunities for Cambodia, particularly in tourism. Samdech Techo Hun Sen sees attracting more Pakistani visitors as a key way to enhance people-to-people exchanges and support broader bilateral relations.
