(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen expressed his desire and support for the Royal Government of Cambodia to establish an official embassy in Pakistan, speaking in a bilateral meeting with Pakistani Senate President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday (Feb. 2) at the Solidarity Palace.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the opening of an embassy would help promote and further strengthen Cambodia–Pakistan relations.
Samdech Techo also recalled that Pakistan was among the first countries to recognise Cambodia, establishing diplomatic relations on 28 May 1952, a year before Cambodia gained independence from France, the spokesperson added. Cambodia has always remembered Pakistan’s early recognition, viewing it as a reflection of the country’s longstanding goodwill and support.
In the meeting, Cambodian Senate president and Pakistani Senate chairman also agreed on the importance of encouraging continued cooperation to further develop bilateral relations.
