(Phnom Penh): Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wrote a congratulatory message on Sunday (Feb. 1) marking the one-year anniversary of the operation of Chaktomuk Walk Street, a renowned tourist destination in Phnom Penh.

The pedestrian zone was launched as a pilot project by the Phnom Penh Capital Administration along Preah Sisowath Quay, stretching from Street 94 to Street 240 in Daun Penh District. Since 1 February 2025, the area has operated every weekend from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., during which all vehicles are prohibited.

Over the past year, Chaktomuk Walk Street has become a vibrant weekend destination for both local residents and international visitors. Authorities estimate that 80,000 to 100,000 people visit the area every Saturday and Sunday.

The initiative has also generated livelihoods for nearly 1,400 people, including around 1,000 general vendors and 400 vendors operating in organized stalls, contributing to local employment and the nighttime economy.

Phnom Penh is currently ranked second globally as a nightlife city and tenth among the world’s most favored tourist cities. In addition, the BBC has listed the capital among the top 20 best travel destinations for 2026.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that the success of Chaktomuk Walk Street over the past year has been made possible through the concerted efforts of the Phnom Penh Capital Administration’s leadership, civil servants at all levels, all security forces, as well as the strong support and participation of the general public.
