(Phnom Penh): The Board of Peace, an initiative launched by US President Donald Trump, formally welcomed Cambodia as a founding member of the organisation, according to an announcement posted on the social media platform X.

Cambodia’s decision to join the Board of Peace was made on 26 January by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during a meeting with Samuel Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, following an official invitation from President Trump.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that Cambodia’s participation reflects its strong commitment to promoting and contributing to global peace. He noted that goodwill, a love of peace, and active engagement in peacebuilding and peacekeeping have long been core principles of Cambodia’s foreign policy. This commitment is reflected in Cambodia’s sustained contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions in countries affected by conflict.

Samdech Thipadei further clarified that Cambodia’s role as a founding member of the Board of Peace will be for a three-year term and does not require any financial contribution. The USD 1 billion contribution applies only to long-term or permanent membership.
