(Phnom Penh): On the afternoon of 21 January 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn received a courtesy call from Flavio Bonetti, newly appointed UNESCO Representative to the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the occasion of his presentation of the Letter of Credence.
The foreign minister warmly welcomed and congratulated Flavio Bonetti on his appointment, noting that his presence underscores the value Cambodia places on its longstanding partnership with UNESCO. He expressed appreciation for UNESCO’s efforts and continued support to Cambodia, particularly in advancing the country’s development priorities in the fields of education, culture, environment, and heritage preservation.
Furthermore, he highlighted UNESCO’s technical assistance in safeguarding the Preah Vihear Temple, a World Heritage site affected during the recent Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, pointed out that no country knows the value of peace better than Cambodia, as Cambodia has gone through many years of war and genocide, and reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening its cooperation with UNESCO in the years ahead.
Flavio Bonetti conveyed his honour and pleasure at being assigned to Cambodia and highlighted his strong commitment to strengthening cooperation and promoting Cambodia’s development efforts. He also emphasized that UNESCO will continue to support collaboration in enhancing the education system, promoting peace and sustainable development, and preserving cultural heritage.
In conclusion, Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to coordinate with relevant ministries to ensure the success of Flavio Bonetti’s mission in Cambodia.
