(Battambang): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, reported that on Wednesday morning (Jan. 21), the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) coordinated the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to conduct observation, verification, and reporting on the border situation in the areas of Sampov Loun and Phnom Proek districts, Battambang province.

The inspection followed the entry into force of the ceasefire, and inspecting civilian sites and infrastructure, such as housing and a referral hospital, all of which sustained severe damage during the Thai military attack in December 2025.

The spokeswoman stated that Cambodia continues to provide its full support to the AOT and emphasized the indispensable importance of strengthening its role and mandate. She added that the AOT plays a critical role in verifying and ensuring the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, as well as in promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust between the parties.

She further reaffirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of National Defence remain firmly committed to fully, strictly, and responsibly implementing the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee Joint Statement adopted at its 3rd Special Meeting on 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated 26 October 2025, and all other relevant agreements.

These commitments, she stressed, aim to ensure a swift return to normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term security along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
