(Phnom Penh): On 20 January 2026, Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and Head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), received a courtesy call and held working discussions with Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

During the meeting, Sinarith highly commended the overall cooperation between Cambodia and China across all sectors, with particular emphasis on close and fruitful collaboration in the fields of security and crime prevention, especially in combating online scams.

He underscored that the Royal Government of Cambodia maintains a firm and clear stance in implementing measures to crack down on and dismantle locations and criminal networks involved by online scams, as well as in taking legal action against ringleaders and accomplices.

At the same time, Cambodia will continue to strengthen cooperation with partner countries to jointly conduct coordinated enforcement operations aimed at severing leadership structures and dismantling criminal syndicates at their roots.

In response, the Chinese ambassador expressed appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia and Cambodian law enforcement authorities for their cooperation in arresting and repatriating Chinese ringleaders and accomplices to China for further investigation and prosecution.

Ambassador Wang also underlined that this cooperation serves as tangible evidence of Cambodia’s strong efforts and concrete results in combating online scams, demonstrating these achievements to the international community. It also reflects the effective and positive cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese law enforcement agencies.

He further praised the Royal Government of Cambodia for having clear and well-defined plans, which have strengthened international confidence in Cambodia’s capacity to combat online scams, expressing hope that such crimes can ultimately be eradicated.

On the occasion, the Chinese ambassador reaffirmed his strong confidence in Cambodia’s commitment and capabilities to carry out these efforts effectively, and stated that China stands ready to continue cooperation and provide support to Cambodia in achieving the shared goal of suppressing and eliminating online scams activities from Cambodian territory.

To conclude, both sides exchanged views on the current situation and discussed next steps in strengthening bilateral cooperation in combating online scam.
