(Phnom Penh): The Cambodian Ministry of Interior released an update on Friday (Jan. 16) regarding the situation following the ceasefire agreement.
According to the press release, covering the period from 6:00 a.m. on 15 January to 6:00 a.m. on 16 January 2026, an additional 3,633 displaced persons returned to their homes. As a result, out of more than 640,000 people who were displaced, approximately 500,000 have now reintegrated into their communities.
However, 140,693 people, including 73,616 women and 46,180 children, remain in displacement camps. Some families who initially returned to their villages were later forced to relocate back to temporary camps due to the complete destruction of their homes and the presence of unexploded ordnance left behind.
