(Phnom Penh): Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has lodged a formal diplomatic protest with the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh over the seizure of a Cambodian fishing boat and the arrest of four fishermen by the Royal Thai Navy, asserting that the incident took place within Cambodian maritime territory.
According to the diplomatic note seen by Fresh News on Thursday (Jan. 15), the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on January 6, 2026, at coordinates 11°33'30"N and 102°51'39"E, an area Cambodia maintains lies within its waters off the coast of Koh Kong.
While welcoming the release of the four Cambodian fishermen on January 11, the ministry formally demanded the immediate return of the fishing vessel and all confiscated equipment.
Cambodia strongly condemned the action as a violation of its sovereignty and jurisdiction and urged Thailand to refrain from similar incidents in order to preserve good bilateral relations.
