(Phnom Penh): The National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC) officially notified the ASEAN Para Sports Federation of its withdrawal from the 13th ASEAN Para Games, scheduled to take place in Thailand from 20-26 January 2026.
In a letter dated January 8, NPCC Secretary General Yi Veasna stated that due to unforeseen circumstance, Cambodian athletes and their families would regrettably be unable to participate in the upcoming 13th ASEAN Para Games.
“NPCC greatly appreciates the hard work of APSF, NPC of Thailand and Thailand Sport Organizing Committee (THASOC) in preparation and organizing the 13th ASEAN Para Games. NPCC also thanked the 10 ASEAN countries which always support NPCC and wish all NPCs from the region a wonderful time in participating in the games.” the letter added.
The withdrawal follows a similar decision in December, when Cambodia abruptly pulled out of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. That move came after the Cambodian delegation had already attended the flag-raising and opening ceremonies, with officials citing safety concerns amid escalating border tensions and alleged military aggression by Thai forces against Cambodian sovereignty.
