(Phnom Penh): Responding to reports from some Thai media alleging that Cambodian authorities at international airports, particularly Techo International Airport, have aggressively questioned Thai travellers, Civil Aviation Authority Spokesperson Sin Chanserivutha said on 7 January 2026, that such claims are unfounded.

He explained that Thai nationals departing Cambodia with verified travel records face no questioning. Additional screening applies only to Thai travellers entering Cambodia with no prior travel history, and is limited to routine security procedures, including standard questions and the requirement of a local guarantor.

He also emphasized that these measures do not apply to non-Thai foreign nationals traveling to Cambodia via Thailand.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation recently instructed all Cambodian diplomatic missions abroad to inform both Cambodian and foreign travellers to avoid transiting through Thailand and to temporarily suspend the use of Thai airline services.

The Cambodian Embassy in France reported several incidents involving European travellers transiting through Bangkok, including lengthy interrogations, excessive demands for financial proof, scrutiny of hotel bookings, intimidation, and in some cases, lost luggage upon arrival in Phnom Penh. The Embassy has likewise urged travellers to choose alternative routes.

Cambodia remains safe and continues to welcome visitors with respect and hospitality.
